About

What this site is, how the reading works, and how to follow it.

What this is

BLINK is a novel, published here one chapter at a time. It is Book One of the Eternity Thread Saga, written by Awasen Oe.

A chapter goes up once a week, on Mondays at 20:00 US Eastern. Released chapters are listed in order on the chapters page, and the Obelisk shows that same list as one shape, a facet per chapter.

The two veils

Every page on this site renders in one of two states.

The surface veil is what loads by default. The thread veil is the same page and the same words, rendered differently.

To move between them, press V or use the eye control. It is a toggle: one press each way. Holding to look is available in the reading settings, but it is off by default, and it is never the only way to do anything. Your choice of veil is remembered in this browser.

What the thread veil shows

Inside a chapter, names and terms that have a compendium entry are linked. In the surface veil those links are inert – they take the colour of the sentence around them and carry no underline, so nothing interrupts the reading. In the thread veil they light up. Following one opens its entry.

The compendium

The compendium is the reference for the people, places, things and ideas the book names.

Two rules govern what you see there:

  • Entries unlock as you read. Each entry is tied to the chapter in which it first appears.
  • Anything past where you have reached stays folded. Where an entry continues beyond your position, that part is collapsed behind a note saying so. It is never deleted: you can open it deliberately, and cover it again afterwards.

Your position is kept in this browser’s local storage, not in an account. There is nothing to sign into. Clearing your site data, or using Clear my reading in the settings, resets it.

How to follow it

  • RSS – the chapter feed is at /chapters/index.xml. One item per chapter, readable in any feed reader, no address needed.
  • Email – the signup is on the home page and at the end of every chapter.

Reading settings and accessibility

The settings control opens text size, motion, sound, the hold-to-look option, and a way to clear everything the site has stored about you.

The rules this site is built to:

  • Every control is reachable with Tab and operated with Enter or Space.
  • Nothing requires a hold, a drag, a double-click or precise timing. A single press does everything a hold does.
  • Reduced motion is honoured. If your system asks for it, transitions become instant state changes; you can also force that in the settings.
  • Sound is off by default. Some chapters carry an ambient bed, it plays only if you switch it on, and nothing is gated behind hearing it.
  • Time spent behind the veil gradually drains the colour out of the surface. That is cosmetic, it never hides text, and it can be switched off.
